Kingon told the Nugent commission of inquiry into Sars of their plans to getting Sars to where it used to be.

South African Revenue Service acting commissioner Mark Kingon appeared before the Nugent Commission of Inquiry into Sars.

Kingon told the commission that the revenue service is working on turning around the organisation to get it back to what it was before the arrival of Tom Moyane in 2014.

He spoke about some of the biggest units that were dismantled such as a large business centre and a unit that will investigate illicit economy that would have a significant impact.

This is according to EWN reporter Barry Bateman.

He is coming with a lot of energy and you can feel his passion in what he is talking about. He says there are good people in this organisation despite what they've been through who wants to get down doing what they love.

Barry Bateman, EWN senior reporter

Bateman says Kingon started his testimony by apologising to everybody for Sars has not been living up to its own values. Later he spoke about a process to reinstate about 200 employees who were displaced by the new operating model.

We heard his evidence that when this new operating model was introduced people who had jobs were suddenly not part of the organisation.

When he spoke about the efforts there he choked and paused for about 15 seconds to regain himself.

He says what they are going to do is that they are going to start assessing the skills of those people who were displaced in this new operating model. He is looking at reinstating them in positions where their skills can be properly used and they can find meaning and purpose in this organisation.
