City Power has experienced criminality which threatens to affect the broader Johannesburg community.

Over the past weekend, six men robbed a City Power substation in Mulbarton, stealing copper cables. Last week, City Power also expressed grave concern about vandalism of its infrastructure, especially in the Lenasia South area.

It has also emerged that City Power officials face intimidation and are being threatened when they are addressing illegal electrical connections in communities.

The City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba says criminals cannot be allowed to threaten service delivery in the city.

He adds that national government needs to beef up its prosecutions so as to ensure that there are consequences.

Unfortunately, it looks like these criminal syndicates are living in paradise because South Africa is becoming a country where criminals can enjoy protection.

Us as the city of Johannesburg and JMPD in particular, we arrested these criminals on an everyday basis and a week later people are walking back in the streets.
