The town has created special pedestrian crossings with African Penguins painted across them, in an effort to draw in more tourism.

The African penguins appear to waddle across the quirky pedestrian crossings.

The Simon's Town Business Association says the initiative is aimed at highlighting the seaside town's uniqueness.

The association's Liesel Coetzer says the idea was inspired by Economic Opportunities MEC Alan Winde.

Coetzer says there has been a great response to the new crossings, which will hopefully also create more driver awareness that there are penguins roaming in the town.

We've had such a positive response and it's just lifted our spirits.
