Limpopo ANC Youth League calls for resignation of mayors linked to VBS scandal

The ANC's Integrity Commission says all party members implicated in the VBS bank scandal must step aside from leadership positions as well as party activities.

EWN reporter Pelane Phakgadi says the commission met on Saturday and because the implicated members failed to appear before the commission, they have taken the decision that they need to step aside.

We do know there are mayors, speakers and chief whips of municipalities, particularly the ones that have deposited money with VBS. They have not indicated particular individuals...

According to Phakgadi, George Mashamba, who is the Integrity Commission Chairperson, said he doesn't know why the implicated individuals did not appear before the commission. There were no reasons provided for their absence.

He says Danny Msiza has approached the High Court in Pretoria to set aside the findings and conclusions of advocate Terry Motau's report.

He has asked the High Court to set aside any citations of him within the Great Heist Report, whether linked or quoted, he wants all of it to be set aside.

He says he was not given any chance to respond or to entertain the report before it was released.

Acting Secretary General of the ANC Youth League in Limpopo Matome Moremi Tautsoala says the Youth League welcomes the decision taken by the Integrity Commission which is inconsistent with the call they made earlier last week.

He says the issue of VBS is a serious matter which affects the poor communities and putting service delivery in those affected communities on hold.

That's why we are saying while they are trying to clear their names they must step aside and allow the ANC to redeem what is left of the ANC.

Tautsoala says the mayors in the affected municipalities should also be instructed to resign because they were also part of the 'famous meeting' at a Polokwane hotel.

He says this shows that it was the mayors who gave instructions to the CFOs and Municipal Managers to deposit money into VBS, therefore, they should either be suspended or should resign.
