'Pittsburgh shooting is a culmination of Trump's inflammatory mood'

Jewish leaders in Pittsburgh, United States have penned an open letter signed by more than 16 000 people, to President Donald Trump, saying he is not welcome in the city, unless he denounces white nationalism and stops targeting minorities.

11 people died and six were wounded at a shooting in a synagogue in the city this past weekend.

A 46-year-old man, identified as Robert Bowers, stormed the building and opened fire while shouting “all Jewish people must die”. He faces 29 criminal charges.

Professor of International Relations at Wits University, John Stremla, is in the US.

Earlier in the week Allan Bush killed two blacks [people] in a racist killing down in Louisville, Kentucky. So the Pittsburgh tragedy, where many more lives were lost, is the culmination of the mood that Donald Trump is sowing in his very inflammatory rhetoric toward the hard right.

Trump seems totally tone deaf on this score and has demonstrated no empathy, even though his daughter is a converted Jew and his son in law Jared Kushner is a devowed Jew.
