Mr Tekkie opens three branches ahead of its court battle with Pepkor (Steinhoff)

Following the Steinhoff saga, former owners of Tekkie Town and their employees have come together to set up a rival shoe business called Mr Tekkie.

CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies spoke to former CEO of Tekkie Town, now co-founder of Mr Tekkie, Bernard Mostert.

He says a lot of people have lost a lot of money in the Steinhoff accounting irregularities that wiped off 95% off its share price.

Pepkor, Steinhoff's retail business, has filed a court order against its former employees at Tekkie Town to prevent them setting up Mr Tekkie, a rival operation.

The matter will be heard on Tuesday in court and Mostert says they are ready to defend themselves.

Our case is unique in that we do have a case that dates back to May 2018 against Steinhoff to recover the business that was defrauded from us.

Mostert says they are not backing down on this matter and they "will do what they have to do to earn a living". He says Mr Tekkie opened three branches last week and he reports they are doing very well.

We need to do something to earn a living and we need to do something to apply our skills - the skills that we have built up over many years.
