Motive behind the killing of prominent gang lawyer Pete Mihalik still unknown

Prominent gang lawyer Pete Mihalik has been shot dead on Tuesday just outside a school where he was dropping off his children in Green Point, Cape Town.

His eight-year-old son was badly injured and he has been rushed to hospital. He is said to be in a stable condition.

The Reddam House School has now been placed on lockdown following the incident.

EWN reporter Kaylynn Palm says forensic investigators are currently at the scene, as well as parents of the children who at the school premises wanting to fetch their children.

The car is still at the scene but the body has been removed about a few minutes ago.

Police have confirmed Mihalik's death, however, they have remained tight-lipped about the motive behind his killing, says Palm. They have yet to release any more details.

News24 special investigative writer, Mandy Wiener says Mihalik was a prominent high profile criminal advocate and was one of the go-to guys in terms of criminal defence advocates.

There is a concern that this could be as a result of a turf war that's been going on in Cape Town between gang lords.

Mandy Wiener, News24 special investigative writer

A lot of people are speculating what could've happened, what could've led to this and what the implication would be.
