Lawyer speaks of shock following murder of 'generous' Pete Mihalik

The legal fraternity in Cape Town suffered a loss on Tuesday following the murder of Advocate Pete Mihalik who was shot dead while dropping his kids at school in GreenPoint.

His son was injured in the shooting and by late yesterday police confirmed they had taken one person in for questioning.

Lawyer Marcelo Stevens paid tribute to Mihalik calling him his mentor.

When I was fresh from campus and didn't know anything Pete was the one who held my hand trying to show me the finer things and skills of the profession.

Marcelo Stevens, lawyer

Incredibly generous person in terms of his time and dedication through his friends, colleagues and family. I got to know him as a highly skilled litigator, feared by a lot of adversaries, including myself.

Marcelo Stevens, lawyer

We lost a great man who was a dedicated father and a dedicated husband to his wife before she tragically committed suicide. We are all in shock.

Mihalik leaves behind a 17-year-old daughter and an eight-year-old son who is currently in hospital.
