M&G suspends its political editor Matuma Letsoalo over conflict of interest

The Mail & Guardian has suspended it's political editor Matuma Letsoalo pending an investigation into allegations of a conflict of interest with Passenger Rail Authority of South Africa (Prasa).

Speaking to Clement Manyathela, Editor-in-Chief at M & G Khadija Patel says she was made aware of the allegations against Matuma Letsoalo when the journalist from the Daily Maverick contacted her.

These are serious allegations because the reporter in question is a political editor and a senior member of the Mail & Guardian staff.

I believe that we need to have a thorough investigation of his particular involvement and his conflict of interest and how his business interests interfered with his reporting.
