The sentencing proceedings against convicted sexual predator Collan Rex have been postponed once again.
The former Parktown Boys assistant water polo coach has been convicted of 144 counts of sexual assault and 12 counts of common assault.
Rex will only be sentenced next month.
Child rights activist and manager at Big Shoes Foundation Luke Lamprecht explains the reason for the postponement.
The reason very simply was that Mr Rex is entitled to a pre- sentence report that responsibility was charged with the department of Social Development's probation officers which simply did not submit the report on time.— Luke Lamprecht, Child rights activist and manager at Big Shoes Foundation
Lamprecht has aired his frustration with the delay. He says the department did not attempt to explain why the report was not complete.
We often talk about secondary abuse of victims by the system, this is going into tertiary abuse of these young men. They comply with everything and then what happens is the state does not complete the report.— Luke Lamprecht, Child rights activist and manager at Big Shoes Foundation
The judge was furious and he asked for an explanation but none was forthcoming.— Luke Lamprecht, Child rights activist and manager at Big Shoes Foundation
