Mmusi Maimane is not in charge of the party - former DA member Brett Herron

Former DA councillor Brett Herron says the DA has completely absent leadership.

Herron on Thursday resigned as a Cape Town councillor and member of the party.

He says the organisation has lost it's commitment to due process and is adrift when it comes to policy directives.

The former mayco member for transport says he's disappointed in DA leader Mmusi Maimane, who has failed to take action on issues he has raised in the past.

According to Herron, the DA has not transformed, despite the window dressing of black leadership.

He claims that transformation is a swearword to DA councillor JP Smith, who he says at the forefront of provincial leadership.

Herron and former Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille are facing criminal charges instituted by the DA, following recommendations made in the lastest Bowmans report.

He maintains that the report, which probed alleged tender corruption at the city’s transport authority, does not implicate him in any wrongdoing.

The Bowmans reports contradict each other. One of them makes the recommendation that criminal charges should be laid. It doesn't say against who and for what.

Brett Herron, former MayCo member for Transport

Many people who've read the report, including my lawyers, say they can find absolutely no reason why I've been implicated.

Brett Herron, former MayCo member for Transport

There's not a single thing in there that implicates me in any wrongdoing. I don't know why I've got criminal charges against me.

Brett Herron, former MayCo member for Transport

Resig ing is irrelevant, Saps will continue to investigate me, whether I'm a member of the DA or not.

Brett Herron, former MayCo member for Transport

When Helen Zille was the DA leader, there was a very clear direction that party was heading in and there were very clear policy positions.

Brett Herron, former MayCo member for Transport

I'm very disappointed in Mmusi Maimane. I have no respect for Mmusi and the way he has lead the DA.
