One hundred members of the the rail enforcement unit were deployed on Monday to safeguard the rail infrastructure and to look after the safety of passengers.
The first arrest was made by the new Rail Enforcement Unit during a trip to the Salt River station. The arrested commuter was wearing a golf cap, black leather jacket, black T-shirt, and a grey trousers and was in possession of 'Tik'.
On Thursday, the Rail Enforcement Unit made its second arrest when they were at Esplanade station. They arrested a man in possession of nine packets of dagga.— Kaylynn Palm - EWN Reporter
Commuters were very shocked and impressed when they saw the officers on the train and they felt safe. They welcomed it and they said its by time that they have officers around because they do not feel safe especially during peak time.— Kaylynn Palm - EWN Reporter
