Why the number of police reservists has drastically declined since 2010

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has revealed that the number of police reservists has dropped by 82% since 2010.

In 2010, the number of police reservists stood at 63 592, eight years later, the total number has dropped to just 11 015.

John Maytham spoke to Researcher at Centre Of Criminology At UCT Simon Howell about the decline in numbers.

The number dropped originally because SAPS introduced a fitness component which I think excluded a number of people.

They're also stopped paying a stipend to reservists.
