Chef Kamini Pather debuts 'Fudy', the Cape's plant-based meal service on wheels

Celebrity chef Kamini Pather has brought a first-of-its-kind, predominantly plant-based food delivery service to Cape Town.

The meal service, dubbed Fudy, is now available through Uber Eats in the Mother City.

Pather says the idea stemmed from her not always having time to cook and limited health food delivery options.

The Masterchef SA season two winner says Fudy sold out of the portions on sale during their launch on Thursday.

She says having the meal service seems like the smartest way to be able to serve people food.

Pather explains the concept of a 'dark kitchen', where a group of different food brands operate out of the same shared kitchen, with the purpose of cooking food purely for delivery, rather than eat-in customers.

There are five signature dishes, which can be incorporated with either free-range chicken or sustainably-farmed trout, she shares.

Living your dreams is a full-time intense job.

The concept is called a dark kitchen. There are a few brands that share a kitchen space. We share overheads, we make food and deliver food through existing delivery services.

It's about 95% plant-based. All of the sauces, vegetable or bases are 100% plant-based.

You can also have either free-range chicken or sustainably-farmed trout.

I found that there is a huge community of people who want to eat healthy food, but also don't want it to taste like cardboard.
