Axed South African Revenue Service (Sars) commissioner Tom Moyane has given President Cyril Ramaphosa until midday on Friday to withdraw his notice of termination.
Moyane has sent a letter to the president saying he will approach the courts to have the decision to fire him declared unlawful. He also insists that the president await the outcome of the pending Constitutional Court application.
The former Sars boss was let go following recommendations made by retired Judge Robert Nugent in an interim report.
Moyane's lawyer Eric Mabuza insists his client should given an opportunity to appear before an impartial inquiry to address the allegations against him.
Mr Moyane has not been given an opportunity to confront those witnesses, to put his side of the story including calling his own witnesses.— Eric Mabuza, lawyer representing Tom Moyane
All the obstacles that he has raised must first be addressed. We are happy to go before any inquiry, he is not running away.— Eric Mabuza, lawyer representing Tom Moyane
