Police Minister addresses claims 'dirty cops' are involved in crime syndicates

Minister of Police Bheki Cele says progress is being made in arresting those involved in cash-in-transit heists.

The Department of Police has announced a 36% drop in that type of crime, while 237 suspects have been arrested 92 vehicles recovered.

Speaking to Bongani Bingwa on the Breakfast Show, the minister says he believes they are closing in on the kingpins.

There are quite several names that we have been hunting and have those people.

Minister Cele says he remains concerned by alleged police involvement in the heists.

23 police officers have been fingered in local syndicates.

The problem is not just the police alone, it's a chain. The police they get involved and they you find that they boast of having people in the prosecution and magistrates going up.

We are working hard to counter whatever form they are coming up with.
