Have you seen Congo: the trial of King Leopold the Second?
It covers serious historical subject matter being covered and it is in its final week at Market Theatre.
It deals with the genocide set in motion in Congo by its Belgian colonisers which caused 10-million Congolese to perish.
The play takes the form of an inquest between a lawyer, Advocated Xola Mlambo, played by John Kani and the king himself, played by Robert Whitehead.
Joanne Joseph spoke to veteran actor John Kani about the play and what inspired it.

It was a manuscript of King Leopold the Second by Mark Twain. Apparently, when he took it in for publication no publisher would touch it.— Dr John Kani, Actor and writer
