Ford has been conspicuously dishonest in Reshall Jimmy case - forensic expert

Forensic Scientist Dr David Klatzow has accused Ford of being 'conspicuously' dishonest in the way its approached the death of Reshall Jimmy who burnt to death in his Ford Kuga in 2014.

AfriForum head of private prosecution Advocate Gerrie Nel, will be representing the Jimmy family in a legal battle against Ford.

The Jimmy family says Reshall burnt to death after the vehicle caught alight while he was on holiday in the Western Cape.

Ford insists he committed suicide.

Klatzow says Ford hired an investigator who revealed that the fire started in a short circuit under the vehicle's dashboard but the company denied this.

They [then] brought out a so called expert from the United States who gave a aversion that the fire had started at the back of the car near the petrol tank.

I examined the car briefly, I haven't finished examining the car but the one thing you can say for certain is that the Ford expert was wrong because there was eyewitness evidence of where the fire started and it was not where he said it was.

Ford then went a whole bunch of changing their version and generally misbehaving. We had a meeting with them and during tea break Renisha's brother left his tape recorder on the table and I overheard the conversation they had in our absence which was to the extent of let's see what we can get out of them, we are not going to give them anything.

Ford is ducking and diving over this and they have been from the word go.

Meanwhile the National Prosecuting Authority has decided not to prosecute the motor company, saying it's awaiting the results of a formal inquest, which will now be held on the 4th of February in the Western Cape High Court.

Renisha Jimmy, Reshall’s sister explains why they have rejected a settlement from the company.

We said that we want justice and the truth to come out. He died, not because he was shot.

In the early stages, someone had a fire and came back to us saying that they went to the dealership and the dealership is spreading rumors that Reshall had committed suicide. His autopsy clearly says he was clear of shooting....
