[LISTEN] Chilling confession of a woman abuser - #MeToo

Bhekisisa Mncube is woman abuser.

By his own admission, he has physically, sexually, and psychologically violated 'no less than 100 women'.

He makes the admission in his memoir, The Love Diary of a Zulu Boy, published earlier this year.

But more recently in an open letter in The Sowetan in which he describes, in stomach-wrenching detail, the extent of the abuse he inflicted on former partners.

The publication of the letter coincides with the 16 Days of Activism campaign.

On Sunday night's 'Late Nights' show on Cape Talk host Sara-Jayne King spoke to Mncube about his dark past and why he chose to 'confess' publically.

Also joining the conversation Vanessa Govender, abuse survivor, former TV journalist and author of the memoir Beaten But Not Broken.

All these years I'd been reading about the women, the women who were killed, and I thought, I've never actually met this abuser. Let the abusers own up.

We need to understand the psychology of the abuser.

Mncube says he is willing to face the legal consequences of his actions, even if that means jail time.

I would plead guilty any day. I don't have a choice because I don't have a defence. What could my defence be?

Abusive survivor Vanessa Govender describes how she felt reading Mncube's article.

I was devastated. It almost felt as if my abuser had written that to me.

Vanessa Govender, author of Beaten But Not Broken

For too long we've been hearing from women who've survived and what they've been through. We never hear from the men, because they're never willing to stand up and take accountability for what they've done.

Vanessa Govender, author of Beaten But Not Broken

Mncube says through extensive therapy and 'single-mindedness to start a new family line' he is now a recovering women abuser who has been 'clean' for 20 years.

He's encouraging other men to do the same.
