ANC welcomes appointment of Shamila Batohi as new NDPP
The African National Congress (ANC) has welcomed the appointment of Advocate Shamila Batohi as the new National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP).
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the news on Tuesday.
Batohi who is a former state prosecutor from KwaZulu-Natal and currently a International Criminal Court law advisor, will start her term in February next year.
The party spokesperson Pule Mabe says the appointment signals a new era in government's efforts to strengthen the criminal justice system.
We also believe that this appointment reflects how far our nation has come in in advancing women empowerment by producing capable women with the caliber of Advocate Batohi who are able to hold their own and stand head and shoulders above their counterparts.Pule Mabe, ANC spokesperson
We call on her to do her job and execute her immediate responsibilities without fear or favour. She must attend to her task regardless of who could be involved in matters that could be before her.Pule Mabe, ANC spokesperson
