Date rape drugs now frozen into ice cubes

It has been revealed that criminals are now freezing date rape drugs into ice cubes.

This means even people drinking a harmless soft drink containing ice could be vulnerable.

Sarah Cox of the Triangle Project says they have had two cases reported, but one of the victims was not sure if the drug was delivered in ice cubes or not.

The criminals are using the well-known 'date rape' drug, Rohypnol.

One of the big challenges with drink spiking is that they do it while you are not looking, while your attention is diverted somewhere else. whether it's placed in your drink in a form of an ice block or in a form of a liquid, you would not know because you are not looking.

Sarah Cox, The Triangle Project

With Rohypnol, you have the after effects of feeling unwell and have no recollection of what really happened. So it is really hard for someone who has experienced this to really know how this could've happened.

Cox says it is very difficult to hold bartenders to account because this could be done by patrons especially if the club has no bouncers at the door checking bags.
