Draw inspiration from what Madiba stood for, says Ndileka Mandela

Nelson Mandela's granddaughter has encouraged South Africans to draw inspiration from Madiba's leadership qualities.

Ndileka Mandela says it's important to remember what Madiba stood for, as the world observes the fifth anniversary of his passing.

The former president and struggle icon died on this day in 2013 after a long illness.

Last week, Ndileka launched a new initiative in her grandfather's memory, the "Leading Like Mandela" leadership development programme.

She says South Africa is facing great challenges when it comes to ethical and values-based leadership.

Ndileka adds that she still has hope that the ANC can return to its values espoused by the founding fathers of SA's democracy.

For me, personally, [this day] is to reflect on his leadership style and qualities.

We are currently at a crossroads in terms of a values-based, morally-based leadership in this century.
