This follows the news of a six-year-old child who was mauled to death by two Rottweilers.

The Cape of Good Hope SPCA spokesperson Belinda Abraham says they are saddened by the news of a six-year-old child who was mauled to death by two rottweilers.

The two dogs were taken to the SPCA where they were euthanised at the owner's request, says Abrahams.

She says they still don't know what caused the dogs to attack the child.

We do want to remind all dog owners that owning a dog comes with great responsibility.

Belinda Abrahams, Cape of Good Hope SPCA spokesperson

We encourage power breed owners to guard against aggression.

It is also not clear how the dogs got to this child if they were enclosed. Abrahams says they are allegations that the gate was left open but these allegations are not yet confirmed.

Unfortunately, there isn't much evidence that points towards irresponsible pet ownership, we can only assume at this stage.

Belinda Abrahams, Cape of Good Hope SPCA spokesperson

Pet owners should realise that they could be held personally liable for their pets causing injuries.
