Get out! - CPT tourists encouraged to beat load shedding by 'getting outside'

We heard earlier this week how businesses in Cape Town are bearing the brunt of load shedding.

The Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry told Kieno Kammies that the power outs have already begun negatively affecting business and as a result, the economy.

But how's the Mother City's tourism sector fairing during the blackouts?

Enver Duminy is CEO at Cape Town Tourism - he joined Kammies on Friday morning.

The challenge is not normally for the big establishments, they've normally got contingency plans - our biggest concern is for restaurants and smaller operators who don't have that money for back up assistance.

The impact on them will be significant.

Duminy says from a marketing perspective they've come up with a plan to draw attention away from the scheduled black outs.

Cape Town is an outdoors, adventure destination. We also look at how we position, saying if there is load shedding there's so many activities people can do in the interim because it's normally only about 2 hours.
