The TAC mobilised people & changed victims into activists - Sharon Ekambaram

In the Changemakers segment, Treatment Action Campaign veteran Sharon Ekambaram chats about the organisation, and commemorates 20 years of service, dedication and impact.

Ekambaram says that there's still pain and trauma regarding the struggles of the past.

It's like we're living in a completely different country when we look at how society engages with diseases like HIV and TB she adds.

We haven't looked, understood and studied how this disease (HIV) has impacted black, South African women.

Ekambaram says that the TAC has brought hope, because HIV was seen as a death sentence.

She adds that the beauty of the campaign was the fact that it brought people together.

TAC remains a home for young people who are unemployed and struggling with their status of living with HIV.
