NSRI's safety tips for beachgoers this festive season

The holidays are upon us and soon many people will be flocking to the coast.

The sad reality is that drowning accidents do happen at the seaside.

Dr Cleeve Robertson of the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) provides tips for beachgoers on how to guard against accidents. He also talks about the NSRI's readiness for the school holidays.

The public has to respect water, the sea in particular.

Here are some of the things Dr Robertson advises:

  • Supervise your children at all times
  • Don't drink and swim
  • Wear a lifejacket when you board a boat or ferry

We really hope that people will listen to the lifeguards and obey their instructions on the beaches.
