Due to a spate of attacks on Table Mountain, group hikes have been organised under the theme "Take Back Our Mountains".
The hikes were initiated earlier this year following an incident where hikers' were robbed in January. The group organises hikes each month and ensures that everyone is safe and accounted for by using two-way radios.
Group leader, Taahir Osman says there are about 50 to 60 people who have joined in. He says everytime a hike is organised people turn up in their numbers because everyone wants to feel safe while hiking.
The group is quite manageable because we choose the easiest routes and we have group leaders who keep in contact via two-way radios and we regroup at a certain stage to put the group together.— Taahir Osman, Group leader
Most people who join us are hikers and some are from the local hiking clubs...— Taahir Osman, Group leader
This Sunday will see their 12th hike taking place through Signal School Steps and Admiral's Waterfall.
Osman says this hike should take about 3-4 hours and the starting point will be at SA naval museum at 06h45 for 07:00.
