A fire has destroyed the town hall, the school and an estimated 60 homes in Wupperthal, near Clanwilliam on Sunday.
Wilfred Solomons is deputy head of Cape Town Disaster Management but speaks to CapeTalk on behalf of the Moravian Church.
Emergency personnel from the Western Cape government and Department of Health assisted victims throughout the night and have been placed on standby to assist where required.
He thanked all for the donations and assistance but says more relief is needed long-term as it will take over a year to rebuild the town.
Suggested items needed are non-perishables such as canned food, clothing, and sanitary products.
