A Limpopo municipal manager has been discharged from hospital after being attacked and robbed by five suspects in a private office in Polokwane.
The Sowetan reports that Republic Monakedi, municipal manager of the Mopani district municipality, was robbed of R5 million destined for the ANC's January 8th celebrations.
The municipality disputes this claim, with spokesperson Witness Tiva saying the police are referring to an undisclosed amount of money.
The police are telling us that the victims were robbed of an undisclosed amount of money and that should be respected.— Witness Tiva, Mopani district spokesperson
If Sowetan is saying that the municipal manager was in possession of R5 million, we obviously know that it is against the law, that is money laundering.— Witness Tiva, Mopani district spokesperson
Tiva says the police should be given the space to conduct their investigation and the municipality will follow up accordingly.
The police findings will assist us to take the matter further...— Witness Tiva, Mopani District spokesperson
What Monakedi is telling us is that he didn't have any money belonging to the municipality.— Witness Tiva, Mopani district spokesperson
