Political analyst Prince Mashele and ANC head of presidency Zizi Kodwa engaged in a lively debate about the party's leadership.

Political analyst Prince Mashele says very little has changed in the ANC under the leadership of its president Cyril Ramaphosa.

Mashele says that while Ramaphosa's image may have restored some integrity to the governing party, he has not cleaned out the rot which thrived during Jacob Zuma's tenure.

Mashele and ANC head of presidency Zizi Kodwa engaged in a lively debate about whether the party has improved under Ramaphosa's reign.

Kodwa claims that the Ramaphosa-led ANC has owned up to its past mistakes and begun a process of organisational renewal.

He says this is evident in the criterion used to compile the ANC election lists.

The ANC is not the property of those elected into leadership. The ANC is the property of the people of South Africa.

Zizi Kodwa, ANC head of presidency and acting national spokesperson

We are acknowledging the mistakes committed over a period of time. We are owning up and we are prepared to renew ourselves.

Meanwhile, Mashele says Ramaphosa's leadership has merely been a band-aid solution to deep, ongoing problem.

He adds that the members who helped Zuma loot the state, such as Ace Magashule and David Mabuza, are still there on the ANC NEC.

If you were to take Cyril Ramaphosa out of the picture, the ANC appears like a collection of thieves and thugs.

Prince Mashele, author and political analyst

The ANC under Jacob Zuma was an organisation with an open wound. The ANC under Cyril Ramaphosa is an organisation with a bandage. The wound has not been attended to.

Prince Mashele, author and political analyst
