Denel board chair defends hiring of Daniel du Toit as CEO

Denel board chairperson, Monhla Hlahla responded to the union's allegations of discrimination for the appointment of Daniel Du Toit as group chief executive.

According to Hlahla, the board was looking for a suitable candidate who will be able to turn things around at Denel and restore the integrity of the institution.

However, the union Limusa said that there were credible and capable black people who applied for the post but were not considered.

The skills that we were critical about, were the skills that would buy us a lot of respect and favour from the markets from which we draw our funding, including Treasury.

Daniel was working in Europe managing a critical technology in the defence industry ended being our very top candidate and we made a decision as a board.

She says the decision made to hire Du Toit was made with their eyes open knowing that they are accountable to the country on this decision made.
