Solly Msimanga to step down as Tshwane mayor

Solly Msimanga will be stepping down from his position as Tshwane Mayor.

Msimanga announced the decision at a Democratic Alliance (DA) press briefing on Friday.

He says he's taken the decision in order to focus solely on his candidacy as premier for Gauteng

Eyewitness News reporter Thando Kubheka was at the briefing.

He will be stepping down next month.

Meanwhile the DA says it has noted a plea from the families of the Life Esidimeni victims to have a controversial billboard removed. The billboard lists among others, the people who died in the Life Esidimeni tragedy.

But as Thando Kubheka reports, there doesn't seem to be clarity on what steps will be taken.

Msimanga said the party was communicating with the families and a pronouncement will be made, but this was different to what John Moodey said. Moodey said the billboard is not going anywhere, it will stay for the duration of the election campaign.
