Will Agrizzi's testimony hurt the ANC 2019 elections prospects?

Political analyst Aubrey Matshiqi says Agrizzi evidence will not be the only reason the ANC lose support at the elections.

With the election year in full swing, will the explosive testimony by former Bosasa executive Angelo Agrizzi hurt the African National Congress (ANC)'s election prospects?

READ:Can Agrizzi's testimony be used against him in a court of law?

Tiso Blackstar Associate Editor Ranjeni Munusamy says the ANC has been on a high because of polling data that shows Cyril Ramaphosa is popular with voters. Agrizzi's evidence is so damning against the ANC that it could affect them at the polls, she says.

The response from the ANC is quite different from its response on the VBS matter and you see that the party is not consistent in the way that deals with this evidence.

Ranjeni Munusamy, Tiso Blackstar Associate editor

Political analyst Aubrey Matshiqi says the ANC is punch drunk, and it is like a boxer that has taken too many punches to the head.

That is why it cannot come with a coherent response to the evidence by Agrizzi. Remember this is a highly fictionalised organisation and it is not going to cohere on anything.

Aubrey Matshiqi, political analyst

He adds that allegations coming out of the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture on their own, will not be enough to hurt the party.

To the extent that they are concerned about the damage caused to the image of the ANC, it is because of the accumulation of factors and allegations relating to other matters in addition to the evidence at the Zondo Commission.
