Contracts awarded to Bosasa were simply money laundering schemes - Dennis Bloem
Former chairperson of Parliament's Correctional Services Committee, Dennis Bloem has appeared before the commission of inquiry into state capture to give more testimony on what Bosasa's former employees have already told the commission.
EWN reporter Clement Manyathela says Bloem told the commission it didn't make sense how Bosasa was getting contracts from Correctional Services.
He has spoken about how most of the contracts given to Bosasa were simply "money laundering schemes".Clement Manyathela, Reporter - EWN
Bloem says Bosasa was paid millions for prison catering when it didn't really do much. He says the inmates and the staff at correctional services were doing the cooking and dishing up food, although there was a company contracted to do so.
He also told the commission about how Winnie Ngwenya (who was also mentioned in Angelo Agrizzi's testimony) came to his office and told him that executives at Bosasa would like to meet with him.
When he refused, this woman said to him that "you are missing out, ke nyuku mo" (there is money there).Clement Manyathela, Reporter - EWN
Because he was one of the people raising questions around the Bosasa contracts, Bloem told the commission, he quickly became an enemy within the ANC.
He says some of the members were plotting to get him ousted from the portfolio committee.
