[LISTEN] Meet the South African behind the viral Super Bowl 'food porn' ad

Writer at Miami's David Agency, Melusi Mhlungu's Superbowl advert has not only caught the attention of the world but has boosted sales at Devour's Frozen Foods by 62% within the first week.

The hilarious 'food porn' advert went viral last week ahead of the US Super Bowl halftime show.

To date, it has more than 14 million views on YouTube.

Mhlungu took some time out to talk to Azania Mosaka about the advert and the work that was put into it.

It is a great feeling to see something you have worked on back and forth, lots of scripts back and forth, the craft and energy, the work that has gone into it, to finally see it... it has been quite a journey.

At first you come up with this idea and think there is no way the client is going to buy it. The client kept pushing us more and more , pushing every single joke, even contributing to the jokes. We have a very brave client on our hands. What was great about it was the fact that, the client said during the brief that this is one of the last Superbowl things we are ever going to do so it it needs to be effective.

Besides the Superbowl views, it is important to be effective in whatever you are selling. Within the first week, sales have went up by 62% so that was for me, the most effective spot I have ever written.
