Zimbabweans express outrage at VP receiving medical care in SA

Zimbabweans living in South Africa are outraged by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga who is reportedly at Groote Schuur receiving medical treatment.

On Monday, popular Zimbabwean based protest group Tajamuka led a protest outside the hospital where the vice-president has reportedly been admitted, demanding that he return to Zimbabwe to receive medical treatment there.

Chiwenga has since been moved to a medical facility in Durban.

Spokesperson of Tajamuka, Promise Mkwanzi says it is expensive for government officials to receive medical attention outside the country when they refuse to fix the health facilities in the country.

We believe that the deputy president must lead by example by being attended to by local facilities in the country. We also believe that it is expensive for these officials to be treated outside the country as they rely mainly on the taxpayers' money.

In addition, the deputy president refused to listen to grievances by medical practitioners in Zimbabwe, so it is quite ironic that now he has to leave the country to be treated elsewhere.

Mkwanzi says the President of Zimbabwe and his cabinet have an obligation to fix the medical facilities in the country and ensure that they also receive medical attention in the country.

He says as soon as they find out which hospital Chiwenga has been moved to in Durban they will protest there as well until he is returned to Zimbabwe.
