The South African Medical Association (SAMA) has told doctors and other healthcare professionals who are yet to receive their January salaries not to report for duty until they have been paid.
Dr Eddie Ngwenya, a member of the SAMA board, says those who have not been paid are interns and community service doctors.

The problem is that these are guys who are coming out from school. They don't have money and they have taken loans and have never earned a salary some of them.— Dr Eddie Ngwenya, SAMA board member
