The Gauteng Department of Education says it is investigating cases of sexual abuse at the Valhalla Primary School in Centurion.
This is on the back of allegations of a male teacher assaulting school pupils last year.
Department spokesperson Steve Mabona says department representatives are at the school to assess the situation.
We know about the allegations of sexual assault and we are busy with documentation to finalise the removal of the teacher at the school.— Steve Mabona, Spokeperson - Gauteng Department of Education
Normally when there are allegations like this, we recommend that the teacher involved be removed from the school.— Steve Mabona, Spokeperson - Gauteng Department of Education
He adds that they will be monitoring the progress of the sexual assault case opened. However, he believes that what is important is the well being of the pupils and they have already dispersed a psychosocial unit team.
It has learned from incidents that the police need to be given space to do their work while they also find space to do their job.
