Wits student hunger strike continues

The hunger strike by students at Wits University continues in protest at the lack of accommodation and registration for students with historical debt.

Speaking to Joanne Joseph on the Afternoon Drive Show, Wits SRC President Sisanda Aluta Mbolekwa says since Tuesday they have only been drinking water.

The SRC has a total of 18 members but we have some students that are backing us, about 50 to a hundred.

Mbolekwa says they chose this kind of protest because students need to reimagine demonstrations on their campuses.

It can't be that year in and year out we are victimised by private security and threatened us and beaten up on campus.
