On Wednesday, seven people were charged with corruption, money laundering and fraud related to dodgy Bosasa deals. Five of them have been since granted R20,000 bail each at the Specialised Commercials Crimes Court.

Former Bosasa executive and whistleblower Angelo Agrizzi, Correctional Services Commissioner Linda Mti, Patrick Gillingham and Andries van Tonder are among those charged.

Head of the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) Advocate Andy Mothibi says the arrests were ten years in the making and they welcome the arrests.

In our view, it is a process that will ensure that all of those recommendations made by the SIU back then, will now be executed in a form of holding all those responsible criminally accountable. And make sure that the charges are brought forward and justice is done.

Advocate Andy Mothibi, Head - Special Investigating Unit

Mothibi says the SIU expects a guilty verdict with the appropriate sentences against those charged. He adds that there will be more arrests made as investigations continue.

We expect that there will be more arrests and in our report we specifically indicated that all those that have been pointed out - Mti, Gillingham and some of those companies that are affiliated to Bosasa and their office bearers to the extent in which the evidence points to anyone else going forward, we expect more arrests to be made.

The SIU has also established a committee that will monitor what comes out of the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture.
