EFF MPs fighting post-SONA could face charges despite 'self-defence' claims

Several EFF parliamentarians could be charged with assaulting police officers after the State of the Nation Address (Sona).

EWN has seen a police incident report in which officers say they were pushed aside by EFF MPs exiting the National Assembly chamber on Thursday night.

In a widely spread video, the EFF's Marshall Dlamini can be seen hitting an officer in the face.

However, the EFF claims it was responding to an alleged security threat on the life of its leader, Julius Malema.

The party released a statement on Friday,

Parliamentary spokesperson Moloto Mothapo said on Friday that no threats had been reported by any MPs, reports EWN's Lindsay Dentlinger.

One of the opposition MPs said that she heard Julius Malema saying they are members of Parliament and won't be stopped from doing their work.
