B-BBEE model has produced the likes of the Guptas - Mmusi Maimane
DA leader Mmusi Maimane says the ruling party's broad-based black economic empowerment (B-BBEE) policy has only benefited a few individuals while those who are rightfully deserving are left out in the cold.
The party announced that it has stopped backing the B-BBEE policy going into the 2019 national elections.
Maimane says it is time there is a policy that benefits more South Africans instead of the politically connected few.
Ther BBBEE model has produced in many ways the Guptas. I want a B-BBEE that works for all South Africans, that includes more people. I want more black South African and more students to benefit.Mmusi Maimane, Party leader - DA
We are for those who are left out rather than the connected few at the top. It is not about replacing South Africans and I make it very clear and explicit. We want an expanded model that includes more people, not less.Mmusi Maimane, Party leader - DA
Going into elections, Maimane states the Democratic Alliance policy in addressing black disadvantage as follows:
Better equity relating to enterprise development
Better education outcomes to broaden and include more youth who are unemployed
Ensure that microenterprises are stimulated by giving benefits to black South Africans.
He concludes, that "ultimately it is about when confronted with two candidates within a workspace to pick a black South African because we want to create a diverse workspace."
Maimane says the predictions that the DA is losing support are not true and insists the party is growing.
We are surging ahead and we are growing... We are a party of growth.Mmusi Maimane, Party leader - DA
I am very comfortable to confront those polls to demonstrate that come the end of the elections and I will say those predictions were wrong.Mmusi Maimane, Party leader - DA
At the end of the day, our party stands for one message, one South Africa for all and we want to build a job in every home.Mmusi Maimane, Party leader - DA
