Zondo Commission goes through Vytjie Mentor's testimony with a fine-tooth comb

Former ANC MP Vytjie Mentor has returned to the Zondo Commission of Inquiry to be cross-questioned on testimony she presented before the commission.

Mentor is the first witness to be cross-examined by those she implicated in her testimony.

EWN reporter Clement Manyathela says those implicated have been afraid to come forward and apply for cross-examination for fear of the questions they will be asked.

Imagine people like Nomvula Mokonyane applying for cross-examination running the risk of being questioned about the monies that they allegedly received from Bosasa.

Fana Hlongwane and Duduzane Zuma have been granted an opportunity to cross-question Mentor.

Manyathela says the two haven't been given an opportunity yet as the commission is still questioning mentor based on its own investigations based on her testimony.

Remember she testified that in 2010 she traveled with former president Jacob Zuma to China on a state visit and en route she was introduced to two Gupta brothers by Duduzane Zuma and businessman Fana Hlongwane.

But she has since retracted saying that it wasn't Fana Hlongwane after googling his images.

According to an investigation by the commission, Atul Gupta was not named on the Department of Home Affairs list of people that were part of that state visit to China.

Manyethela says Mentor stuck to her guns insisting that Atul could have used a different passport which means he could have left the country undetected just like the jet landing at Waterkloof air base.
