Eskom has been lying to us about operational problems, says energy analyst
Energy analyst Ted Blom says Eskom has landed itself in "a mess of gigantic proportions".
Eskom announced that stage 4 load shedding would be implemented on Monday after it lost six additional generating units.
Blom says he doesn't see the power utility surviving past the end of March if the current situation continues.
He says Eskom has been dishonest about the operational issues it's facing, apportioning blame on the old power stations.
Meanwhile, Blom says Eskom cannot afford maintenance work and is extremely short on coal supply.
He adds that newer power stations Medupi and Kusile are far from running at optimal capacity because of design flaws.

Eskom has been lying to us about where the problem on the operations side is.Ted Blom, Independent energy analyst
Eskom hasn't got the money to do the mid-life refurbishments of most of the stations. They've taken 12 old units offline, which has already reduced a lot f their capacity.Ted Blom, Independent energy analyst
On top of that Medupi power station can't above 60% availability, which is an absolute disaster. And, even worse, Kusile can't get above 17% availability... The feedback that Eskom has given us is that it's design problems.Ted Blom, Independent energy analyst
