Eish-kom! What's the plan, President?

With frustration at the return of load shedding reaching fever pitch, the Presidency has sought to explain plans to 'unbundle' beleaguered parastatal Eskom.

During his SONA speech last week President Cyril Ramaphosa spoke of plans to save the sinking SOE by unbundling it into three distinct entities.

But how exactly will Ramaphosa's vision for Eskom unfold?

Spokesperson to the President Khusela Diko joined Kieno Kammies on Wednesday morning to explain.

This has got absolutely nothing to do with privatisation. In fact, it's pure opportunism that anybody is speaking about privatisation. Unbundling does not lead to privatisation.

Khusela Diko, Spokesperson to the President

You want to first make sure you are able to decentralize it's management, that you are able to understand exactly where the risks are and that's why you create it into three little components all of them under Eskom Holdings.

On Tuesday President Cyril Ramaphosa came under heavy fire from the opposition during the responses to last week's SONA.

DA opposition leader, Mmusi Maimane said it was 'ridiculous' that the president was shocked and angry at level four load shedding, saying he should have known the electricity supplier was in dire straits.

Over a number of years the maintenance that what supposed to have been done, wasn't done.

Khusela Diko, Spokesperson to the President

If you look at some of the plants, you look at the management there, you find in certain instances you do not have the skills that are required.
