Cape Town-based non-profit organisation Rape Crisis has launched a powerful campaign which gives a voice to rape survivors.
The campaign features the voices of rape survivors who share their stories of what happened to them.
The brave individuals are part of the organisation's small SpeakOut project, made up of survivors who want to publicly share their personal stories.
Rape Crisis director Kathleen Dey says the SpeakOut project has 10 members who have courageously spoken about their pain.
The aim of the campaign series is to raise awareness, interrupt the silence about rape in society and to encourage support towards the NPO.
One of the rape survivors in our counselling service came to us and said, "What if I want to speak out and be an activist for change?"

It's an exercise in inviting an old pain back into your life, rather than tearing off a scab. The group work together and meet once a month about their experiences of speaking out.

Pain and courage are part of the journey of speaking out, but it's also a journey of getting stronger and stronger.

We need ordinary people in our communities who may feel helpless listening to this but who can make a difference by donating.

The adverts will be flighted on radio stations including CapeTalk this week ahead of a TV campaign that airs next month.
