Taxi driver unruly behaviour
702/CapeTalk listeners share stories of having been violently harassed by taxi drivers and feel the government needs to act on it.

702/CapeTalk's listeners seem to share a notion that taxi drivers feel entitled to harass and abuse motorists on the roads.

Listeners shares stories of being violently harassed by taxi drivers and feel that the government has been lenient for far too long. It is time something is done about their violent and unruly behavior, say callers.

Caller Hope in Witbank says he narrowly escaped being chased by taxi drivers after giving a lift to three women hitchhiking in the rain.

This is not on, they cannot dictate to people who to give lifts to. They stop at hiking spots and make sure that cars don't give lifts to people. They do not have exclusive rights to every person who needs to catch a ride. If a person wants to catch a taxi they would go to a taxi rank.

Karen in Lenasia describes how her son's school's transport driver was harassed by taxi drivers for transporting children to school. She says this is not the first time that this driver has been harassed in front of the children.

We have a right to send our children to school with whoever we want to send them with and we have a right to send our kids to school in transport that is safe and secure and I don't right to send my kids to school in a taxi.

Karen, Caller

I am absolutely flabbergasted and would like to take this further

Karen, Caller

We hired an Avanza from Joburg to Giyani and on our way back we were pulled over by these taxi people and said we must prove that we are all related and we are coming for a family funeral. They took our keys and demanded that we pay R1000 so that they can release the car.

Chales, Caller

It has become very dangerous to drive in a vehicle that resembles a minibus

Charles,Caller

I think we tolerate the nonsense of taxi people because they are given a monopoly ... they think they are the bosses of the road and no one else must transport the people.

France, Caller
