Bishop Lavis CPF fears continued escalation in gang shootings
The Bishop Lavis Community Police Forum (CPF) says it's seen an upsurge in gang-related shootings in the area and surrounding communities such as Bonteheuwel and Valhalla Park.
Three teenagers have been wounded in a drive-by shooting in Bonteheuwel this week.
At least eight people were killed across the Cape Flast area last week alone.
The Bishop Lavis CPF is particularly worried by increased targeting of women in the apparent gang warfare.
A woman was gunned down at her Bishop Lavis home last Saturday and another woman was shot dead while waiting for a taxi outside court the day before.
We are getting worried that woman are being killed in our area.Graham Lindhorst, Bishop Lavis CPF head

Bishop Lavis CPF head Graham Lindhorst says the Cape anti-gang unit cannot be effective if it is taken in and out of the area.
Lindhorst believes that the unit needs to be permanently deployed to the high crime areas in order to become pro-active, rather than reactive.
