The City of CT plans to increase available water capacity by more than 300 million litres a day through various measures.

The City of Cape Town has a new plan for how to ensure water security for the future.

The R4,5 billion strategy plans to secure water supply through groundwater, desalination, water re-use, clearing alien vegetation and tightening demand management.

City officials also plan to increase available water capacity by more than 300 million litres a day through these various measures.

The City's Xanthea Limberg explains that the municipality wants to rely less on the Western Cape water supply system, which is managed by the national government.

We cannot be sure that it's the end of drought because of the unpredictability in relation to climate change. We realise that we cannot return to business as usual.

Our level of reliability and assurance in terms of water security will increase quite significantly.

We will continue with demand management and water conservation efforts. The drought has taught many lessons.
