There's a lion on the loose in Beaufort West, warns SANParks
Communities in the Beaufort West area and people traveling in that vicinity are urged to be on the lookout for a lion that is believed to have escaped from the Karoo National Park last week.
SANParks Communications GM, Reynold Thakuli says they were able to get a fresh spoor on Monday afternoon but had to call off the search at night.
He says they are still searching for the lion in the two neighbouring farms where it is believed to have passed over the weekend.
We are calling for people in the area to be careful because often when people spot the lion they stop to take pictures. So we are saying to them if they spot a lion they must inform the local police.Reynold Thakuli, Communications GM - SANParks
These things do happen, but we call upon the communities not to approach the lion but inform the authorities so we can catch it and bring it back in the park.Reynold Thakuli, Communications GM - SANParks
